“Maybe just tell me what you would like sir?”

Imagine you’re in a restaurant.

It’s your party’s turn to order.

Your mate is taking an eternity with the waiter.

“I don’t like beef”

“I’m allergic to shellfish”

“I’m not in the mood for anything too heavy”

“I don’t want the fajitas”

“I don’t want the lasagne”

“I don’t wan’t the mixed grill”

After a while, the waiter, understandably says “Maybe just tell me what you would like sir?”

An exaggerated situation, of course.

As these often are.

But designed to help us question when we do similar.

When we start listing the things we don’t want rather than that we do.

When we talk about what we can’t do, rather than what we can do.
