I mentioned yesterday that I took my car for a service on Wednesday.

They recommended that two of the tyres be replaced before the next MOT in January.

Coincidentally I then got a flat on one of those tyres the next morning (last Thursday).

I was doing the school run down a country lane and the guy coming the other way was a bit too far across.

I went a little on the grass verge, rather than hit him.

And hit a rock in the grass.

Split the tyre and damaged the wheel it did ๐Ÿ™

I had to get the AA man to take me to Buxton to get a new tyre.

And drove carefully to Stockport to then get a new wheel.

Shame, but not the end of the world.

It all just wasted a bit of time.

It reminded me of the last time I got the AA man out for a flat (the Picasso doesn’t carry a spare in case you were wondering).

It was the day of the England football team’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

We were screening it down at The Academy.

I was on the way back from the school run (my two oldest kids go to school near Bakewell as they live over there with their mum half the week).

Coincidentally, only about half a mile from where I got the flat last Wednesday.

And I ran over a nail in the road.

By the time the AA man arrived it was about an hour a half till kick off.

And I’ve never seen a man work so fast.

He was out of his van and removing the wheel and popping a temporary replacement on in seconds.

Mobile phone held between his ear and shoulder as he called Select-a-Tyre in Buxton to arrange the replacement.

He then followed me to Buxton where the guys who worked there were all stood poised, keen to leave the second the clock hit 6pm.

Like an F1 pit crew, they changed my tyre in the blink of an eye.

Whilst another staff member took my payment.

I reckon I was in and out of there in under 5 minutes.

And they would have all made the game comfortably.

Whilst I may be unfairly judging their normal work speed, I can, at least, confirm that the same process took about three times as long last week.

We can often do things much quicker than we usually do.

And, in life, success often comes from doing certain things as quick as they can be done properly.

Not rushing or bodging them, of course.

But getting them done ASAP.

Whilst it’s nice to spend hours cooking a lovely new recipe with lots of ingredients from scratch……………

We don’t need to do that to lose weight.

Make a few tactical swaps and cut portion size for a much quicker win.

Two hour long workouts are fine if you have a movie to get in shape for.

But a 45 minute GTP session is plenty for most ‘normal’ people.

A five to twenty minute home workout is better than nothing when that can’t happen.

When we think we have to spend longer on these things is when they easily don’t happen.

What with everything else we’ve got going on.

Get them done as quick as can be done properly and you’re good ๐Ÿ™‚

Much love,

Jon ‘Dan’ Hall and Matt ‘Housewives’ Nicholson
